On his 2009 North America Concert Tour, André Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra will be appearing at the Rose Garden on Sunday, June 14th.
Celebrated Dutch violinist, conductor and showman, André Rieu is classical music’s brightest star! Every year, 700,000 attend an André Rieu concert, establishing him as one of the top twenty touring acts in the world. In 2009, Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra will cross the North American continent, filling night after night with breath-taking music. The tour kicks off in Toronto and goes on to play an unforgettable new show in thirty-five cities across Canada and the United States. Rieu’s music and fans will fill stunning, state-of-the-art venues at every stop along the way.
Selling more than 25 million albums worldwide, Rieu has been an unstoppable hit since his international recording career began. Eleven of his albums have gone gold or platinum and, in April of 2008, Rieu dominated the Australian charts, beating out the Australian Idol and even Madonna for the #1 album.
Encouraged by his father, a symphony conductor, Rieu began violin lessons at the age of five. Rieu’s training eventually brought him to the Royal Conservatory of Brussels where he was awarded the Premier Prix. In 1978, he formed the Johann Strauss Orchestra, which has grown from twelve to nearly fifty members. André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra now perform for thousands of devoted fans across the globe, selling out concerts in Australia, Japan, South Korea, Canada, the US, and all over Europe!
Fans adore Rieu for the uplifting, festive atmosphere at his concerts. Crowned the “King of Waltz” by the media, he believes that classical music is for everyone to enjoy. Following in the footsteps of Johann Strauss himself, Rieu encourages his audiences to get out of their seats and waltz in the aisles.
