Dam City Classic

The Oregon State men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a doubleheader at Moda Center in Portland as part of the Dam City Classic presented by your local Toyota Dealers.

The games are slated for Saturday, December 16 when the men’s team plays Saint Louis and the women’s team takes on UC Santa Barbara. Times will be announced in early September when the Pac-12 Conference releases its television schedule.

The two Dam City Classic games will be included in season ticket packages. Tickets purchased for the Dam City Classic will include both games, and will be available for purchase beginning September 5. The rest of the non-conference schedule for the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be announced soon.

“We are thrilled to play in Portland for the third consecutive year,” Oregon State men’s basketball head coach Wayne Tinkle said. “It’s a priority for us to play in Portland each year to thank Beaver Nation fans who live in that area for their continued support.”

The Oregon State men’s basketball team features a mixture of veterans and newcomers heading into the 2017-18 season. Tres Tinkle will be a redshirt sophomore after receiving a medical hardship and will join nine letterwinners, including returning starters Stephen Thompson Jr., JaQuori McLaughlin, Kendal Manuel, Drew Eubanks and Gligorije Rakocevic. Six newcomers join the squad, led by MaxPreps First Team All-American Ethan Thompson and Gatorade Oregon Boys Basketball Player of the Year Zach Reichle.

The Beavers have played Saint Louis two previous times, falling 64-52 on Dec. 29, 1966 at the Far West Classic in Portland, and 24-23 on the road in 1927.

“We are excited to come up and compete in Portland,” Oregon State women’s basketball head coach Scott Rueck said. “This is going to be a fantastic event and we look forward to being with Beaver Nation in the Moda Center.”

The Oregon State women’s basketball team’s matchup with UC Santa Barbara will mark the squad’s first-ever appearance at the Moda Center. The Beavers are coming off three-straight Pac-12 titles, and four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Oregon State will feature a young squad in 2017-18 with All-Pac-12 honoree Marie Gulich as the team’s lone senior. Juniors Katie McWilliams and Taylor Kalmer also return, as does Pac-12 All-Freshman selection Mikayla Pivec.

The Beavers have faced the Gauchos six times in program history, with Oregon State most recently taking a 49-46 win at the 2012 Hardwood Tournament of Hope in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
