PORTLAND, Ore. (September 28, 2017) – Portland Trail Blazers basketball is back! And with it comes six huge concerts and Portland Winterhawks hockey, making October at the Rose Quarter one of the biggest months of the year.

Starting the month at the Moda Center on Sunday, October 1 is the 13th Annual Wells Fargo Fan Fest. Fans will have their first opportunity to watch the 2017-18 Portland Trail Blazers live in action. The free event features first-come, first-served general admission seating, with doors opening at noon. The afternoon will be headlined by an intra-squad scrimmage at 1 p.m. Parking on the Rose Quarter campus will be free, subject to availability. Fans can download their free digital tickets now at trailblazers.com/fanfest.

October is full of Trail Blazers basketball, with three preseason games at the Moda Center on Tuesday, October 3, Thursday, October 5 and Friday, October 13, followed by the highly anticipated regular season home opener on Tuesday, October 24 against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Trail Blazers will also take on the L.A. Clippers on Thursday, October 26, the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, October 28 and the Toronto Raptors on Monday, October 30. All games are at the Moda Center with a 7 p.m. tipoff time, and will be broadcasted on NBC Sports Northwest.

Halloween is in sight, and what better way to get in the mood than a haunted house! FrightTown returns to the catacombs beneath the Veterans Memorial Coliseum for its 13th straight year of scares and screams from October 7-31. Three huge haunted houses are packed with enough thrills and nightmares for a whole month of Halloween haunting. This year, madcap Baron Von Goolo’s Museum of Horrors and gothic Grimthorne Manor are joined by the all new science fiction horror experience, SECTOR 13! Your ticket gets you into all three haunts but if you feel you haven’t screamed enough, FrightTown has even more attractions for you. Feel what it’s like to go six feet under in our Buried Alive simulator, check out our haunted Ghost Gallery featuring real haunted artifacts from real haunted houses, and feel the darkness surround you in our all new pitch black terror maze, Fear The Dark! A whole city block of screams and shock is waiting for you at FrightTown.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (March 15, 2017) – The 12-member World Select Team for the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit will feature many of the world’s leading basketball players age 19 years old or younger.

The 20th annual Hoop Summit will take place at 7 p.m. (PDT) on Friday, April 7 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.

Tickets for the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit are on sale now. Lower bowl seating starts at just $10, and courtside seats are $50 and $75. Applicable service charges apply. Tickets will be available at http://bit.ly/HoopSummitTix, the Rose Quarter Box Office or by calling 800-745-3000.

The annual game pits the World Select Team against the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team, which is composed of elite, American high school players.

The World Team is chasing its fourth victory in the last six games. They beat the USA 84-75 in 2012, 112-98 a year later and 103-101 in 2015 before the hosts responded by beating the World Team 101-67 last year. Overall, the USA holds a 13-6 advantage in the annual game.

Beyond the Hoop Summit’s innate prestige, participation in the game is seen as a step towards professional play. As of December 2016, a remarkable 70 former U.S. players and 38 former World Team members were active in the NBA, nearly one-quarter of the entire league, and a total of 199 Hoop Summit alumni have been drafted professionally.

The World Team guards include Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (6-foot-5, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy, Tenn./Canada), Lindell Wigginton (6-foot-1, Oak Hill Academy, Va./Canada), Nickeil Alexander-Walker (6-foot-5, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy, Tenn./Canada) and Angus Glover (6-foot-4, Illawara Hawks/Australia).

Canada’s Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 7.8 points and 5.4 assists for his country at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship this past summer and has committed to play at Kentucky in 2017-18. His countryman Wigginton has committed to play at Iowa State next season. Wigginton averaged 14.0 points, playing alongside Gilgeous-Alexander, at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Chile as Canada won the silver medal.

Alexander-Walker is the third guard from that Canadian U18 team to be selected to the World Team. He led the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in scoring with 17.4 points, as Canada lost to the USA in the gold medal game. He has committed to play at Virginia Tech next season.

Australia’s Glover plays for Illawarra Hawks in Australia’s NBL and has a wealth of international experience, having most recently represented his country at the FIBA Oceania U18 Championship this past year. He signed a National Letter of Intent at Saint Mary’s College.

The World Team also named five forwards to its 2017 roster: Tadas Sedekerskis (6-foot-7, Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz, Spain/Lithuania), R.J. Barrett (6-foot-6, Montverde Academy, Fla./Canada), Kostja Mushidi (6-foot-5, BC Mega Leks, Serbia/Germany), Borisa Simanic (6-foot-11, Crvena Zvezda/Serbia) and Isaiah Hartenstein (6-foot-11, Zalgiris Kaunas, Lithuania/Germany).

Sedekerskis plays for the storied Baskonia team in Spain’s ACB and also has gained valuable experience in the Euroleague competition this season. The Lithuanian averaged 14.5 points and 10.2 rebounds for his country as they won a silver medal at last summer’s FIBA Europe U18 Championship.

Canadian Barrett enjoyed a successful performance at the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship in Spain, where he averaged 18.4 points.

Mushidi, a German who plays for BC Mega Leks in the top division of Serbian basketball, has played extensive minutes for his club in the European Basketball Champions League, and he averaged 14.7 points for his country at last summer’s FIBA Europe U18 Championship.

Simanic, a Serbian, plays in that country for the famous Crvena Zvezda team where he has gained experience in the Euroleague, as well as averaging 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds for Serbia in last summer’s FIBA Europe U18 Championship.

Hartenstein is a German forward who plays in Lithuania for the renowned Zalgiris Kaunas team and is another player on the World Team to have played in the Euroleague this season. In international basketball, Hartenstein was a teammate of Mushidi’s at last summer’s FIBA Europe U18 Championship, where he averaged 14.7 points and 9.5 rebounds.

The global squad is completed by centers Felipe Dos Anjos (7-foot-2, Oviedo, Spain/Brazil), Nick Richards (6-foot-11, The Patrick School, N.J./Jamaica) and Ikechukwu Obiagu (7-foot, Greenforest Christian Academy, Ga./Nigeria).

Brazilian Dos Anjos has been under contract to the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid since the 2012-13 season and currently is on loan with the Oviedo club in the LEB Gold, the second level of Spanish professional basketball, where he is averaging 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds.

Richards, who will be representing Jamaica at Hoop Summit, is at The Patrick High School in New Jersey, and has committed to play at Kentucky next season. He also has been selected to play in the 2017 McDonald’s All-American Game.

Finally, Obiagu, a high school senior at Greenforest Christian Academy in Georgia, has verbally committed to Florida State for the 2017-18 season.

The World Team at 2017 Nike Hoop Summit will be led by seven-year coach Roy Rana, who currently has a 3-3 record in the series and in 2013 became the first coach in Hoop Summit history to lead the World Team to back-to-back victories.

Rana, a 12-year veteran of the Canada Men’s National Basketball Team, was appointed head coach of Canada’s Junior Men’s National Team in 2012, leading the squad to a bronze medal in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Brazil and a bronze medal at the inaugural FIBA U17 World Championship in Germany in 2010. His long list of international honors also includes two bronze medals and three silver medals with Canada at the Nike Global Challenge from 2006-12. In 2015, Rana led Canada to a best-ever, fifth-place finish at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Crete, Greece, and last summer Rana guided Canada to silver at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

Rana has coached four number-one NBA Draft picks and has more than 25 alumni from the Hoop Summit and Canadian National Team program now playing in the NBA.

He again will be assisted by Serbia’s Marin Sedlacek, who is making his 17th Hoop Summit appearance.

In addition to victories in 2012, 2013 and 2015, the World Team triumphed in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina, by a 104-96 margin; in 1998 in San Antonio, Texas, when Dirk Nowitzki famously recorded 33 points and 14 rebounds in a 104-99 victory; and in 2009 by a 97-89 margin in Portland.

World Hoop Summit alumni playing for NBA teams (as of Dec. 7, 2016) included: Alexis Ajinca (Pelicans); Nicolas Batum (Hornets); Anthony Bennett (Nets); Davis Bertans (San Antonio Spurs); Bismack Biyombo (Orlando Magic); Clint Capela (Houston Rockets); Omri Casspi (Kings); Cheick Diallo (Pelicans); Joel Embiid (76ers); Dante Exum (Utah Jazz); Evan Fournier (Magic); Serge Ibaka (Magic); Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets); Cory Joseph (Raptors); Enes Kanter (Oklahoma City Thunder); Skal Labissiere (Kings); Trey Lyles (Jazz); Thon Maker (Bucks); Boban Marjanovic (Pistons); Patrick Mills (Spurs); Nikola Mirotic (Rockets); Donatas Motiejunas (Rockets); Emmanuel Mudiay (Nuggets); Jamal Murray (Nuggets); Raul Neto (Jazz); Lucas Riva Nogueira (Raptors); Dirk Nowitzki (Mavericks); Tony Parker (Spurs); Sergio Rodriguez (76ers); Dario Saric (76ers); Dennis Schröder (Atlanta Hawks); Luis Scola (Nets); Kevin Seraphin (Pacers); Ben Simmons (76ers); Tristan Thompson (Cavaliers); Karl-Anthony Towns Jr. (Timberwolves); Andrew Wiggins (Timberwolves); and Kyle Wiltjer (Rockets).

“First of all, it’s a tremendous honor to be a part of USA Basketball,” said USA head coach Miles Simon (California Supreme AAU), who previously aided the USA to gold medals at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship and was a court coach at the 2015 and 2016 October minicamps. “It is a continuation of my two-year journey with the U16 and U17 teams and getting to continue that with this class of players. I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun and trying to make it the best experience possible for the players during their week in Portland.

“We have a lot of strengths,” Simon said of the team. “We are very athletic. I think we are an unselfish group. We could be really good defensively. Scoring should not be a problem for this team with the amount of talent on the roster. I think this team will really enjoy being with each other and playing for each other.”

Simon will be assisted by Mike Jones (DeMatha Catholic H.S., Md.), who was 1-1 as the head coach of the USA Junior National Select Team in 2013 and 2014 and was an assistant coach at the 2012 Nike Hoop Summit. Jones also helped lead USA teams to gold medals as an assistant for the 2012 and 2016 USA U17 World Championship Teams and the 2011 USA U16 National Team; he was a court coach at the 2014, 2015 and 2016 October minicamps; and he was an assistant for the East Team at the 2004 USA Basketball Youth Development Festival.

Trent earned MVP honors at the 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, while Sexton was the MVP at the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship and Carter joined him on the all-tournament team.

Seven of the 12 players have signed a National Letter of Intent for the 2017-18 NCAA season, including Brown (Oregon), Carter and Trent (Duke), Green (Kentucky), Jackson (Michigan State), Porter (Washington) and Sexton (Alabama). Additionally, Vanderbilt verbally committed to the University of Kentucky.

According to the 2017 ESPN 100, Porter is the No. 1 player in the class of 2017, followed by Carter (third), Duval (fourth), Bamba (fifth), Knox (seventh), Trent (eighth), Sexton (10th), Jackson (16th), Brown (17th), Walker (19th), Green (22nd) and Vanderbilt (23rd).

Named as 2017 Naismith High School Boys Player of the Year finalists were: Bamba, Carter, Duval and Porter.

Despite being an underclassman, Trent (Minnesota) earned 2016 Gatorade State Player of the Year recognition.

The 2017 USA Junior National Team was selected by the 2013-16 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee, which includes committee chair Sean Ford (USA Basketball Men’s National Team Director); AAU appointees Rich Gray (St. Louis Eagles AAU, Mo.) and Boo Williams (Boo Williams, Va.); NFHS appointees Herman Harried (Lake Clifton H.S., Md.) and John Olive (Torrey Pines H.S., Calif.); at large-representative Evan Daniels (Scout.com); and athlete representatives Chauncey Billups (2010 FIBA World Cup gold medalist and a member of three USA Basketball teams) and Gerry McNamara (2005 USA World University Games Team).

The 2017 World Select Team is expected to be announced in March.

USA Basketball teams have compiled a 13-6 overall advantage in the series and are 3-3 versus the World squad in the past six games. Most recently, the USA recorded the largest margin of victory in event history with a 101-67 win in 2016 that saw Terrance Ferguson finish as the USA’s leading scorer with 21 points and a U.S. Nike Hoop Summit record seven 3-pointers made.

An incredible 199 former USA and World Select Team members have been drafted by NBA teams, including 11 players in the 2016 NBA Draft and 13 alumni in 2015. In fact, the past seven No. 1 picks have been former Hoop Summit participants.

After witnessing the three-hour, two-set marathon show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center merely weeks ago, Rolling Stone professed, “Eric Church sets the bar.” The exchange in energy with the audience and passion that fuels the man behind the CMA’s Album of the Year is an earned one after years of putting his fans first. Whether it is the dozens in attendance at his first performance in Bethel, New York or the 15,842 in attendance for last month’s breezy night in Brooklyn, it is that unrivaled dedication to surpassing their expectations that is driving another mission: ensuring fans’ hard-earned money is spent fairly on face-value tickets at each and every stop on his 60-plus city Holdin’ My Own Tour.

Throughout the Holdin’ My Own Tour, Eric and his team have systematically identified, cancelled and released tickets back to the public that were identified as scalper tickets. Already on the tour, Eric’s management team used a proprietary program to release thousands of tickets back to the public and fans in markets like Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Toronto, Vancouver and Boston. On Feb. 27 at noon local time, the team will release to the official ticketing website all tickets identified as scalper-purchased for the Portland show.

“It’s not easy. It’s time consuming and labor intensive to comb through nearly 1 million tickets,” says Fielding Logan, one of Church’s managers at Q Prime South. “Yet, Eric is leading the charge, and our team is combatting these vultures, one cancellation at a time. Battling scalper efforts isn’t just identifying those individuals looming on street corners soliciting or hawking tickets anymore. It’s halting digital multi-million dollar enterprises that are sophisticated and aimed at taking advantage of the fan for profit. They embody everything we’re against.”

The efforts are resulting in an impassioned crowd, enthralled by the experience of seeing Church live for an unprecedented 38-song show. Tulsa World’s Jerry Wofford noted after witnessing the Holdin’ My Own Tour rock an at-capacity crowd at BOK Center, “What was remarkable to see was how Church made an arena feel tiny for a night. He built a genuine connection to the audience song after song.”

The Kansas City Star’s Timothy Finn raved, “[Church] knows how to stoke a crowd and keep it on the verge of frenzy… a man who has fashioned and earned his own reputation as a top-rate performer who can fill and rock an arena for more than three hours.”

When Church surprise-released 2015’s Mr. Misunderstood, he did so by direct mailing more than 80,000 fans the music first. After taking 2016 off, outside of a few festival appearances, the demand for Church’s tour was palpable with scalpers recognizing the opportunity to take advantage of his fans. In return, Church cautions: “You come at us, we’re going to go after you in return. You come after our fans? Well, let’s just say we see you, we know how you are, and we’re coming for you with 10x the vengeance.”

Tickets for Eric Church at the Moda Center can be purchased from Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the Rose Quarter Box Office (M-F, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.), by calling 800.745.3000 or online at www.rosequarter.com.

As Labor Day passes and the leaves begin to change colors, summer tours start to shift indoors to arenas, such as Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum. In its list of the ‘The 25 Most Anticipated Tours of Fall 2016,’ Consequence of Sound lists Chance the Rapper’s ‘Magnificent Coloring World Tour’ and Amy Schumer’s arena standup tour as two can’t-miss shows this fall.

Schumer’s tour, ranked no. 13, COS writes:

“Schumer will be traveling the planet through the end of the year, but if anybody can handle the pressures of the road, it’s her: She’s the only female comedian to ever sell out Madison Square Garden, a feat that proves that, yeah, she can handle herself just fine.”

Ranked no. 2, COS describes Chance the Rapper’s tour:

“In case you’ve been asleep for the first half of the year, Chance the Rapper released what is easily the most important album of his career. And Coloring Book delivered on the promise of his previous work, giving credence to all the anticipation that led up to it. So, it goes without saying that the tour in support of the album is a key moment for Chance the Rapper. Headlining the biggest venues of his career, including his own hometown music festival, this moment will decide whether Chance is ready to ascend to the top tier of rap stars, the tier that equates him with pop artists, not just rappers.”

UFC® returns to the City of Roses for the first time since 2009 when two of the most dynamic bantamweights in the world collide in the main event of UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: LINEKER vs. DODSON. Fifth-ranked John “Hands of Stone” Lineker is one of the most feared men to step foot in the Octagon® and he’ll look to extend his winning streak to six when he meets one of the best all-around athletes in the sport in No. 9-ranked John “The Magician” Dodson on Saturday, Oct. 1 from the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. and airing live on FS1.

Packing some of the heaviest punches ever seen in the bantamweight division, Lineker (28-7, fighting out of Paranagua, Brazil) makes his second straight headlining appearance. Quickly becoming a fan-favorite, the Brazilian’s fast-paced, striking heavy attack has led him to 13 knockout finishes and an unbeaten record since moving to 135 pounds. Dodson (19-7, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) is also undefeated at bantamweight and has the speed, power and relentlessness to climb his way to the top of the division and once again make a run to a title shot.

In addition, No. 12-ranked Will Brooks (18-1, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) looks to pick up right where he left off putting the lightweight division on notice that there’s a new face in the mix in one of the sport’s most talent-rich divisions. Hoping to halt Brooks’ momentum and crack the top 15 is Brazilian striking sensation Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira (14-3-1, 1NC, fighting out of Tres Rios, Brazil). Oliveira has finished three of his four UFC wins and is quickly making a name for himself as a must-see TV every time he steps in the Octagon.

Plus, one of the hottest prospects in mixed martial arts looks to keep his unbeaten record intact when No. 9-ranked Brian Ortega (11-0, 1NC, fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif.) makes his fifth Octagon appearance. Having finished all his UFC opponents, Ortega is quickly making a name for himself in the featherweight division with his slick jiu jitsu and aggression. Ortega will face his toughest test yet in the form of fellow submission ace, No. 10 Hacran Dias (23-4-1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). A training partner of Jose Aldo and Renan Barao, Dias comes from one of the best camps in the sport, Nova Uniao and has the pedigree and experience to halt the Ortega hype train in its tracks.

Legendary E Street Band drummer and former late-nite bandleader Max Weinberg recently spoke with Rolling Stone’s David Fricke about The River Tour 2016. Among the topics discussed are the tour, the original recording of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s The River 36 years ago and the band’s touring future.

Regarding The River Tour 2016, Weinberg tells Fricke:

“We are that generation of rockers that came up being a bar band. We were never a pop band, playing for a half-hour. The long shows, the longevity of the night — that’s very direct for us. Charlie Watts says he was always fine with the Rolling Stones playing for 40 minutes in the Sixties. Then Led Zeppelin came along and totally ruined it for the Stones. They had to play for two-and-a-half hours, and it changed the way the Stones approached things.

We always did that. I don’t look at it as three hours. I take it song by song, beat by beat. I’m focused, and I don’t leave anything on the stage. Bruce taught me that.”
