Hosted by Rip City Management, Phil Knight Legacy will bring together eight men’s and four women’s elite college basketball teams to compete in Portland for a three-day bracketed event to celebrate the sport of college basketball while honoring the contributions of Phil Knight to the game.
How are events structured?
The city of Portland will simultaneously host two different college basketball events during Thanksgiving week of 2022: the PKI and the Phil Knight Legacy. Each event will include two different brackets – an eight-team men’s bracket and a four-team women’s bracket set up in a tournament-style format. Between the events, a total of 24 teams (16 men’s teams, eight women’s teams) will play 32 games in Portland between Thursday, November 24, and Sunday, November 27, 2022. On Sunday, four separate championships will be awarded: men’s PKI, women’s PKI, men’s Phil Knight Legacy and women’s Phil Knight Legacy.
Which teams are playing in these events?
The men’s Phil Knight Legacy includes Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Oregon State, Portland State, Purdue, West Virginia and Xavier. The women’s Phil Knight Legacy features Connecticut, Duke, Iowa and Oregon State.
Alabama, Connecticut, Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland and Villanova will be featured in the men’s PKI. The women’s PKI includes Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina and Oregon.
What venues will be used for the events?
Three venues will host the PKI and Phil Knight Legacy: the Chiles Center on the campus of the University of Portland and the Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the Rose Quarter.
Who is organizing these events?
The two distinct events (PKI and Phil Knight Legacy) are being run by separate organizers. ESPN Events is hosting the men’s and women’s PKI tournaments, while Rip City Management is hosting the men’s and women’s Phil Knight Legacy tournaments.
When will brackets, match-ups, game times and television information be released?
All 32 games of the men’s and women’s Phil Knight Legacy and the men’s and women’s PKI will be televised on ESPN platforms. The full brackets, including match-ups and tip times, will be published in July 2022. At this time, the following schedule can be confirmed for the Moda Center:
• Thursday, November 24 – four PKI Men’s Quarterfinal games (split into two, two-game sessions).
• Friday, November 25 – four Phil Knight Legacy Men’s games (two Semifinals and two Consolation games, split into two, two-game sessions).
• Sunday, November 27 – four Championship games (split into two, two-game sessions): PKI Men’s Championship, PKI Women’s Championship, Phil Knight Legacy Men’s Championship, and Phil Knight Legacy Women’s Championship (specific order of games to be determined).
How can single-session Moda Center tickets and tickets for games at venues other than the Moda Center be purchased?
Single-session tickets for games played in the Chiles Center, Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum will be available in July 2022. Additional details, including ticket pricing and game schedules, will also be released in July 2022.
