The bull riders of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) are headed back to Oregon, for the seventh year, and ready to buck Saturday, January 15 at Moda Center for the Portland Classic.
Oregon fans will be on the edge of their seats as Saturday night gets underway.
Each rider will be matched with one bull during Round 1 before the top 10 riders with the highest scores advance to the championship round. The overall event winner will be the rider who has earned the most points over two rides.
Despite the cool temperatures outside last January, the Moda Center heated up as Cody Casper (Newport, Washington) won the first PWVT event of his career at the 2020 Portland Classic.
As the gate swung open in Round 1, Casper fired out of the aboard Turn Down For What (Howell Rodeo Company Inc.) and recorded an 85-point score. Despite being bested by Earl (Corey & Lange Pro Rodeo/ Flying Diamond Rodeo) in the final round after just 3.54 seconds, he left Portland with much-needed world points.
In addition to the coveted event buckle and world standings points, winners, like Casper, of each PWVT event are guaranteed at least one opportunity to compete at a PBR Unleash The Beast regular-season event where they can attempt to earn enough points to join the Top 35 bull riders in the world for a spot competing at the sport’s premier level.
